Client is seeking a seasoned accounting and finance professional to join its Accounting team as Controller at its headquarters in Harrisburg, PA.  This position is newly created due to business growth and relocation assistance is available.
Founded in 1977, Client offers a diversified national platform of specialty insurance programs through its insurance company and subsidiaries. , Client continues to expand its product offerings and distribution by developing new insurance programs and increasing the number and geographic diversity of its marketing, sales, and support staff.
The primary focus of the Controller position will be ensuring GAAP and statutory compliance in all aspects of financial reporting.  Responsibilities include:
  • Running the monthly close process for both GAAP and statutory ledgers for multiple entities.
  • Assisting the CFO in preparing and completing annual and quarterly NAIC financial statements (Yellow Books).
  • Ensuring audit readiness and compliance.
  • Documenting and ensuring compliance with internal financial controls and accounting policies.
  • Interacting with state insurance departments and regulatory authorities.
  • Managing premium tax filings across all 50 states.
  • Managing a staff of 2-3 employees.
  • Assisting with financial planning and analysis, including budgets, forecasts, results analysis, and capital planning.
The ideal Controller will have:
  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • At least 3 years’ public accounting experience
  • At least 5 years’ experience in insurance accounting, acquired in public accounting with insurance clients or in the accounting department of an insurance company.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting principles as they apply to the insurance industry.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated track record of problem solving.
  • High comfort level with working in a fast-paced, multi-company environment.
  • Familiarity with Booke software and Clearwater investment software a plus.
